Quiet because he's sleeping...think again

He wasn't napping after all Pin It

It's a "snow day" here in Texas. If you're from my hometown, you're laughing right now. The weather man actually said "It will finally cool down on Tuesday"! After some record highs even for these parts of Texas, we woke up to a frost covered landscape. Scary driving conditions for a city that isn't accumstomed to this white stuff.

At 8ish, Carter asked if he could go out and make snow angels & snow balls-sorry dear, you can still see the grass blades through the ice, not exactly snow ball material! I told him we'd go out in it after Lilah went down for a nap at 10am. Umm...slight problem, it was all melted by then!!

We're pretending to be snowed in today. Among the projects of the morning was what you see in the pics. (it's nap time for both, hence the food photography & blogging!) Have come to love these little cupcakes that I made of all you see there plus equal splashes of water & canola oil. Very kid-friendly-no eggs, so they're free to lick the beater! Today, Carter poured, mixed & I scooped into a muffin tin. These do not taste like pumpkin. Just taste like a chocolate cupcake. Easy & yummy.

Okay, off to my snow day duties: laundry, laundry, laundry!

Cabin fever

Okay, kids are free from RSV! Hooray! Almost 2 weeks ago, Carter came home with it after his first day back at PDO-coincidence, I think not! (Its a trade off we're willing to accept).
Wouldn't have been so bad if being house-bound ended when Carter got over it last Wed. But, when your little sister catches it from you, well, you're house-bound until she is recovered.
I went into his room while he was supposed to be sleeping because I heard some mysterious sounds. Opened the door & saw what looked like the ghost of a 2year old dash into his bed & under the covers. Hmmm...Saw the light was on in one side of his closet. Opened the closet door & found this
Gotta give him points for creativity!
How am I supposed to maintain composure when I see something like this?! Pin It

verse #2

Totally cheating already...2nd verse in! I have this one memorized already, but Dan doesn't, so I'm helping him, aren't I?
I'm behind already in my homework for Esther and I'm afraid I wouldn't memorize a new one.
This is a great one to meditate on, so it's my choice for Jan 15th

I'm going to go ahead and say I'm a fan of 09 so far...
Minus the RSV (yep. it's RSV. Not so alarming in a 2 year old. But in a 2 yr old that loves to hug & kiss his infant sister, to whom RSV could be quite threatening, it's somewhat scary. We're through 5 days of fever & better every hour today.)

Back to a fine 09:
-scored a killer rate at The Bellagio in LV for our romantic getaway Valentines Day weekend (made possible by Grammie, willing to care for all things 105th street while we're gone.)

-nailed down a weekend for our Girls reunion this year. So far something new has been represented in the group each visit since graduation. At first, it was marriage, now it's babies. In 2008, 4 of us had babies! One of us is headed to live in Paris. Still one of us has managed to escape the allure of marriage & family to accomplish things like a doctorate-quite different from my goals these days (ie. trip to Target, showered). Springfield, here we come. More accurately Mudhouse, here we come!

-Lilah Sophia is officially sleeping through the night. (You know what's going to happen tonight now that I've said this out loud, don't you?)

-I've got one verse memorized, 23 more to go. And I started Esther, Beth Moore's latest Bible study. This is going to be good!

God is good! Pin It

Around 1:30 this morning I came to terms with just not getting a treasured Parents Day Out today. He was hot to touch from head to toe and frankly the way his eyes looked scared me enough to pray myself to sleep. Carter spiked a fever on Thursday & still has it today in spite of days of lounging around & watching Piglet's Big Movie on repeat.

Yesterday's Love Dare lesson challenged me to spend time in the Appreciation Room instead of lingering in the Depreciation room. A challenge that easily spills over into situations like these. For me, its the small things that snag me and set me off on the path to Grumpytown. So, no I don't get to partake in my Monday Step class at the gym, and I don't get to leisurely browse through the endcaps at Target & the bargain-packed aisles of TJMaxx today. But I'm going to choose to focus on the silver-lining....ummm...I'll get back to you once I discover a great one! I mean besides being grateful that this is just a cold & that I don't have to call into some job & feel guilty all day.

And yes, I realize this entry sounds completely selfish. I mean, Carter is the one to feel bad for in this situation. He pathetically tried convincing me that he isn't sick anymore so he can go to Miss Susan's class-dripping nose & congested cough included. Sorry, little pal..its you and me and Lilah today. I think Keva Juice is in order.

Some photos of his very first cold
